Reason Lives in the Buckle of the Bible Belt

University to Teach 'Intelligent Design' as Myth | LiveScience

I seem to be seeing more and more articles in the media, on blogs and in academia spoken with a voice of reason. It appears that we are leaving our long dark national nightmare that is the Bush Regime the reckless religious right.

Ron Paul. Corn Fed.

With a corny ad like this, the antithesis of slick, how can you not vote for him.

Ron Paul for Balanced Budget

Ron Paul. My Man.

Sorry Barack. You blew it. You are no longer "my man." Your failure to vote against Michael Mukasey for Attorney General has shaken my faith in you and your party.

Ron Paul in 2008!

Send Demowimps Books of Stamps

Since the only thing the Demowimps seem able to do of late is send letters to members of the Bush administration expressing their displeasure - rather than actively doing something in Congress to fix thing, and YES they have the votes to make things happen or at the very least bring things to a grinding halt in government.
Since all the Demowimps can do is write letters (when they aren't simply skipping votes on matters of the gravest nature - way to go Clinton, Obama, Biden and Dodd - way to show some moral backbone there - skipping the Mukasey confirmation vote. Thanks for nothing.) I suggest the American public (progressive, conservative, libertarian - who cares which side the protests come from, none of us are really being heard in Washington) - I suggest the American public launch a protest in the form of sending your Democratic Congressman and Senator yellow stationary and a book of stamps. Because clearly at the rate they are writing letters the spineless asses must be running out of stationary and stamps. And they should have stationary that clearly reflects their true character!
We should start with Nancy Pelosi, Patrick Leahy, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Christopher Dodd
P.S. and for good measure maybe through in a "Ron Paul 2008" or "Mike Gravel 2008" bumper sticker.
P.S. I was going to include an altered image with this post of the Democratic donkey missing it's spine, but I see that the Democratic party has a new version of the logo where they have already done that. How thoughtful of them. Using Zazzle.com or Stamps.com the stamps you send can feature that spineless ass on it.

The Demowimps Strike (or fail to) Again

I used to be proud to call myself a Democrat. Though in truth I've always been an independent. But of the two major parties I always found that I aligned myself more with the Democrats than the Republicans.
No more. I don't recognize this group (i use that term loosely) that calls themselves Democrats. They suck. Completely. Spineless shitheels is what they are now. I suspect they have some short range ulterior motive - giving Bush and the Republicans enough rope to hang themselves - with the aim of winning the White House and a controlling majority in the House and Senate in 2008. But they won't get my vote.
Our soldiers are being wounded and killed daily in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Democrats have the power to bring them home. Our economy is in a shambles. Our national soul has been sold to the devil. Climate change is happening, we need a unified proactive national plan to cope with it. Only the niave and the ignorant think all this can be laid at the feet of George W. Bush and the Republicans. The Democrats are active participants. Just as the savings and loan debacle of the 1980s fell on the shoulders of both the Democrats and Republicans, so too do both parties share responsibility for the failure to act on today's issues.

God only knows what is up with Ron Paul, but only he and Mike Gravel are speaking with the voice of sanity and reason. As the 'inside the beltway' crowd in Washington run recklessly about destroying our country i find myself declaring myself to be a Libertarian. Government is no longer the solution. It is the problem.

Guy Fawkes Day in America

"Happy Counterterrorism Day" by Scott Horton (Harper's Magazine)
The original George W. saw things quite differently. For him, America was involved in a struggle for its liberty, and the commemoration of Guy Fawkes stood for the opposite: government by fear, oppression of a minority, a celebration of arbitrary power. Guy Fawkes Day was the abnegation of the essential values of the Revolution. So the original George W. put it in an order: No more Guy Fawkes Day. Order in Quarters issued by General George Washington, November 5, 1775: As the Commander in Chief has been apprized of a design form’d for the observance of that ridiculous and childish custom of burning the Effigy of the pope–He cannot help expressing his surprise that there should be Officers and Soldiers in this army so void of common sense, as not to see the impropriety of such a step at this Juncture; at a Time when we are solliciting, and have really obtain’d, the friendship and alliance of the people of Canada, whom we ought to consider as Brethren embarked in the same Cause. The defence of the general Liberty of America: At such a juncture, and in such Circumstances, to be insulting their Religion, is so monstrous, as not to be suffered or excused; indeed instead of offering the most remote insult, it is our duty to address public thanks to these our Brethren, as to them we are so much indebted for every late happy Success over the common Enemy in Canada. America, it was settled, having abolished Guy Fawkes Day would mark that week with a new tradition: the exercise of the democratic franchise. It was to be the time in which the rulers are held accountable to the people.

Long Time No Rant

There are a number of reasons i haven't been posting any rants to my political blog lately. The slow self destruction of the 'W' regime is the main reason. With Rummy and Alberto gone some sanity is slowing returning to our country. Even the rightwingnuts attempts to defend Blackwater are falling on deaf ears. And that, is why i don't post so much anymore. Peter Mehlman sums up my point of view nicely in this post Just Give Me Some Truth on the Huffington Post.
